Here’s what you need:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rice
- 1 cup toor dal
- 2 cups of vegetables (carrot, potato, eggplant, beans, peas)
- 1 onion chopped
- 2 tomatoes chopped
- 1/2 cup tamarind extract
- 2 tbsp Bisi Bele Bath Masala Powder
- 1/4 cup peanuts
- 2 tbsp clarified butter (ghee)
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida
- salt to taste
- Water as required
Preparation:
Step 1:
Wash rice and dal together and pressure cook them with approximately 5 cups of water until 5 whistles.
Step 2:
Heat a pan and add ghee. Once heated, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida and let them splutter. Then, add chopped onions and fry until golden brown.
Step 3:
Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become mushy.
Step 4:
Add chopped vegetables, tamarind extract and salt to it. Cook well until the vegetables become half cooked.
Step 5:
Add the cooked dal and rice to the pan.
Step 6:
In a separate pan, roast the peanuts until they turn golden brown. Finally, add them to the pan with the other ingredients.
Step 7:
Add two tablespoons of Bisi Bele Bath Masala Powder to the mixture and mix well. Cook the Bisi Bele Bath for 10-15 minutes on low flame until it becomes thick and the flavors get blended well.
